The Central Coast Secondary and Primary Schools Chess Competition

This year's competition attracted more players than could fit in the hall at Wyong High School. 60+ secondary  and 140 primary students participated with 50 players being turned away due to lack of space and equipment. Being run on Friday the 13th of September wasn't unlucky for Mingara Chess club's John D'Bais. John won the secondary competition with seven wins from eight games. Second on count back  was John Martin- Fletcher 6.5/8 , third Nathan Kramer 6.5/8 and fourth Wade Higgins and Heath Bonnefin on 6/8 .

The primary Competition was won by Nigel Salamaes 7/7, followed by Tristian Bonnefin, Bradley Owers, Perry Rutter and Sean Leahy on 6/7.

The tournament was ably run by Richard Gastineau-Hills and Margaret Cuckson  from the NSW Junior Chess League and locals George Buley, Peter Nesbitt-Hawes, Will McDougall and Mr. Robinson. Thanks to the efforts of these people, chess has a huge future on the Central Coast.
