Sead Krajina Wins First Mingara Chess Club Tournament of 2000
Newcomer Sead Krajina suprised everyone by taking out the first Mingara Chess Club Tournament of 2000. Sead has not played serious chess since his university days. Sead has only been playing at MCC since October 99. In his first tournament he took half a point from former NSW country champ Mike Mcloon. We knew then he was one to watch.
In Sead's latest triumph he played seeds 1,2 & 3. He won the tournament with 5/6 dropping only one game to No 2 seed Mal Murrell and defeating No1 Seed Brendan Norman and No3 Seed Ivan Kodsoman.
Here is his game against the No1 seed.
Note this game is in PGN (Portable Game Notation)If you cut and paste this game into a text file with the .pgn extension you can play through it in any chess program that supports PGN.

.e4 e5
.Nf3 Nc6 {I've seen this before !}
.Bb5 Nge7
.c3 a6
.Ba4 Ng6 {who says don't move one piece two times in the opening ?}
.d4 exd4
.cxd4 d5 {who cares about doubled pawns}
.e5 Bb4+
.Nc3 Be6 {developing bishops is just another name for "get them out there !!!"}
.0-0 0-0 {I can castle at the same time, looking good}
.Qd3 Bxc3 {simplify, simplify - probably 90% of chess players would not do this exchange}
.bxc3 Nce7 {who does not care about doubled pawns}
.Qe2 c6
.Ba3 {pin, hmmm,ok}
...Qd7 {opening is finished, I have survived, looking good}
.Qb2 Nf4 {targeting Nxg2, with Bh3 & Qg4 later}
.Rfb1 {Nxg2 threat has been noted but it has been rejected as unsound - Brendan's comment}
...b5 {it is not weak now}
.Bc2 Rae8
.Bd6 Nxg2 {to be or not to be - let us see}
.Kxg2 Bh3+
.Kh1 Qg4
.Ne1 f5 {attack, attack}
.Bd1 Qg5
.Bf3 f4
.Bxe7 {if knight was not taken I would give rook for bishop - yet another sacrifice !?}
...Rxe7
.Nd3 Re6 {aiming for h6}
.Rg1 Qh4
.Bg2 {this move took considerable amount of time, now I am around 15 min better off}
...Bxg2+ {even I have spent around 8 min for this I miss to see undefendable move Bg4!!}
.Rxg2 f3 {primarily preventing white's f3}
.Rg3 Rh6
.h3 g5 {my attack is dying, I knew if I do not finish my attack I will loose quickly with minor piece down. Luckily, I did have some reinforcements}
.Rag1 {wrong, the only right defense move is Qc1. But Brendan was running low on time {3-4 min} and doubling rooks and pin on my king looked quite good. He missed to see that he was helping me to give him checkmate in two}
...Kh8 {yes, he has scared me off and my king ran for a shoulder - I did not know that I had check-mate in two}
.Qb1 {probably of being happy for counterplay and running low on time, Brendan was planning to bring his queen on f1 and to start to play his game after that. He again misses to see my checkmate in two. Right and simple defense was Kh2!}
...Qxh3+ {Is this ...? Yes, it is - yes,yes}
.Rxh3 Rxh3# {actually, we did not play last move. Hooh, I had just enough fuel to make it! Luck accompanies courage - is this what they say ?} 0-1
