The King of Mingara Kerry Stead , won the Mingara May Major with an undefeated 5.5/6. Players travelled from Sydney, Newcastle and Goulburn to play. The tournament was ably directed by Brian Jones. The 41 participants included five juniors four of which received prizes. 16 year old Karthick Rajendran won the best junior prize, Rebecca Harris 1st under 1200, Adelaide Soltysik equal 2nd under 1200 and Benjamin Harris equal 2nd under 1200. The other prizes were, equal 1st under 1800 Mal Murrell and Ian Dickson, 3rd under 1800 Chris Edwards, equal 1st under 1600 Anthony Keuning and David Laugery, equal 3rd under 1600 Barry Mann , Keith Farrell and John Pascoe. 1st unrated prize went to Senad Dulic who was also equal second outright. Equal second unrated was shared by Yan Wong and Chester Soltysik. The prizes were presented by Mingara Directors Terry Steer and Bernie Randall. 9 year old Adelaide Soltysik (890) received a standing ovation from the gallery when she held Jonathan Adams (1631) to a draw in the last round. The tournament was played in a friendly atmosphere and a good time was had by all. With the help of the mother club this tournament should be held again next year.
